Mistral’s Free mode is enabled by default for new accounts and lets users create a working API key without adding a credit card.
Free mode includes monthly API usage, but usage and rate limits apply.
Mistral does not publish one universal public free-token allowance for every account; the applicable limits are shown inside the account.
One important catch: Mistral says Free-mode Studio/API input and output data may be used for model training by default, although users can opt out in Privacy settings.

1. Sign in or create an account at Mistral Studio (console.mistral.ai).
2. Open API Keys and click Create new key. No credit card is required for Free mode.
3. Copy the key and follow Mistral’s API quick start (docs.mistral.ai) to send a request.
4. Check the Limits section of your account for the current monthly usage, requests-per-second, and token limits.
5. If you do not want Free-mode API data used for model improvement, disable the relevant setting under Mistral’s Privacy controls.
